Use the computer to learn English!

The computer is a powerful tool for learning languages.

C.A.L.L. -Computer Assisted Language Learning-is a form of computer-based assisted learning.  CALL materials are tools for learning. The focus of CALL is learning, and not teaching. CALL materials are used in teaching to facilitate the language learning process. It is a student-centered accelerated learning material, which promotes self-paced accelerated learning.

There are many CALL websites that can help people learn English. Some of them are really good and some of them are not very useful. To help you find the good ones, students from Global Village tried a few and wrote reviews of them.

Each review includes:

  • Title
  • Address
  • Summary
  • Things they liked.
  • Things they did not like.
  • Stars: 1 star (bad) – 5 stars (excellent).

MAKEBELIEFSCOMIX.COM REVIEW by Sang-Pil

The name of the website is makebeliefscomix. If you want to create your own comix strip,  you should go this  address www.makebeliefscomix.com. You can choose your characters and you can write your own comix story. I think that it’s good for English thought practice. But I don’t like to imagine stories  so  I gave it four stars.

KARAOKEPARTY.COM REVIEW by Ena

I think “Karaoke Party” is a very interesting site. The website address is http://www.karaokeparty.com. This site is for singing songs. You need headphones and a mic. You look at the screen, see the words and listen to the music.  Let’s start singing! I like this site because this site is for singing songs, and it can show the score. It’s good for pronunciation and vocabulary practice. I give it five stars!

LYRICS.COM REVIEW by Atsumi

The name of the website is Lyrics.com. The address is www.lyrics.com. You can see the words while listening to the songs in it. I liked that I could listen to songs for free and see the words, and it was easy to search for the songs. I didn’t like  that I have to find the meanings of  the words by myself. It’s good for listening (and maybe vocabulary) practice. I give it 3 stars because sometimes I use the dictionary but I can’t find the words from the songs.
